Picture Puzzles
---------------
By Dave Colclough and Stoo Fotheringham
Jan 1990
(C) COPYRIGHT MCMXM By Dave Colclough
You may copy and distribute this program freely, provided
that no fee is charged other than any reasonable amount to
cover duplication costs.
NOTE: This file is produced in a 60 column workbench. Not
everyone has an expensive monitor to use with there Amiga,
and an 80 column text file strains the eyes or half of it
scrolls off the screen if you try to read it with a 60
column workbench.
DESCRIPTION
Picture Puzzles is a game based on the old moving tile
puzzle frames that I remember from my childhood. The frame
is 5*5 blocks, and the game can be played in a number of
different ways.
PLAYING THE GAME
After the game has loaded you will notice two icons on
the left hand side labeled NEXT and PLAY, pressing NEXT will
load the next picture in the Frames directory. Pressing PLAY
will shuffle the tiles according to the selected game. In
the top left hand corner is a quit icon. On the bottom of
the screen is a panel containing the four different types of
game that can be played and their fastest times. on the left
is an icon representing the numbered panel on the the left
of the picture. Click on this to turn the numbers off and on.
Note there are different times for puzzles completed without
the aid of this panel. To select different games click on
the red button by the side of the game names.
THE GAME TYPES
Pair Flip Flips two adjacent tiles in either the
vertical or horizontal direction. To move the tiles place
the cursor on one of the tiles you wish to flip hold the
left button down, and move the mouse in the direction you
want to flip it.
Classic Removes a tile to produce a hole (tile 0),
and then allow tiles adjacent to the hole to move into the
hole. Click on a tile to move it into the hole.
Rotate 4 Rotates 4 tiles 90 degrees. Click on the
center of a group of 4 to spin them.
5 Slide Movement similar to the Rubic`s cube. 5 tiles
in a row or column slide together, the tile sliding of one
edge will slide on the other. To move a row or column, place
the cursor on any tile in the row (or column) hold the left
button and move the mouse in the direction you wish to slide
it.
SOLVING THE PUZZLE
After you have clicked on PLAY the currently loaded picture
is shuffled according to the currently selected game. The
elapsed time is displayed by the red led clock on the left.
at any time you can select NEXT to quit the game and load the
next picture. When you have completed the puzzle the screen
will flash for a short while. If you have solved it faster
than the time displayed in the bottom panel, you are invited
to enter you name. After this is done the program will save a
file to disk.
HI SCORES
The hi score table is saved into the same directory that the
game was loaded from. If no hi score is found when the game
loads it will reset the hi score table and the next time you
solve a puzzle in under 60 mins a new file will be created.
FRAMES
The pictures the program displays are DPaint brush files. You
can add you own pictures to the ones with the game by saving a
brush file into the Frames directory. The brush must use 16
colors and it's size must be 160 * 160 pixels. The file can
have any name but must be followed with the extension .FRM
Any number of pictures may be placed in the Frames directory.
APOLOGY
I am sorry that I have not used intuition but simply I haven't
got a book that covers it. Also the load file does not flag
Chip memory so if you have more than 512K of memory you will
have to run NoFastMem before running the game (put it in the
Startup-Sequence), I developed the game on an ST but did not
have enough time to finish the program reformatter that I wrote,
before I had to give the system back to Dentons.
THIS GAME IS RELEASED UNDER "GivUsAJobWare". That is Both me
and Stoo are currently looking to a job, so if you like the
game and know of a vacancy please write to us for a C.V.
Of course you could always send money !

This is a plea from Stoo Fotheringham, I do graphics and have
